International Women's Day

For today's morning message, I wrote "Today is International Women's Day". As the class was writing this note in their agendas, I had at least two students comment that they had never heard of this day before. I had anticipated that some students may have been a bit fuzzy on what International Women's Day was, so I had pulled up a couple of videos on International Women's Day; Google's Doodle video honouring International Women's Day was the first one we viewed.

The second was a video from MailOnline, a U.K. based news agency.

These videos were followed by a lively discussion in the classroom on equity, not just for gender but for all people. One student was inspired to go home and speak up to the fact that her allowance was less than her brother's allowance yet they did the same amount of work! I am looking forward to an update from the student.

As a class, we will dig deeper into this topic. Here is a great resource if you are inspired to dig deeper: Five International Women's Day videos
